Pope Francis has called upon the church to embrace synodality. Synod is an ancient practice in the church which simply means “walking together.” A universal Synod of the church has been called to take place between 2021 and 2023. It will begin with synod listening at the local level through each Diocese in the world and parishes within each Diocese. It will conclude with a special Synod of Bishops in 2023.

It begins in 2021 with step 1 being a listening process at the local level. All Catholics are encouraged to be involved if possible. Each Diocese and parish is asked to provide this opportunity for as many people as possible. The Synod will conclude in 2023 with a special Synod of Bishops.
