\"United<\/em><\/strong>\u201cUniting Catholic Women to Grow in Faith\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Spiritual development is the essence of the Catholic Women\u2019s League. The League was established in 1920 as a lay organization of Catholic women who worked and advocated for social justice but who also valued their spiritual development. The League was officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops as a lay association of women in 1948.<\/p>\n

Councils at all levels are encouraged to provide opportunities for members to experience spiritual growth through:<\/p>\n

\u2756 Prayer: communal and individual (meaningful liturgies, spiritual programs, retreats, days of reflection, prayer with scripture)<\/p>\n

\u2756 Recognizing the sanctity of life: \u201cRespect for life and the dignity of the human person extends also to all God\u2019s creation, which is called to join with us in praising God\u201d (St. Pope John Paul II, World Day of Peace Message, 1990). Members are called to be people of life (from conception to natural death) and for all life at all times.<\/p>\n

\u2756 Study of Catholic teachings (papal documents, courses, programs, guest speakers, workshops, videos, subscriptions to Catholic newspapers, periodicals and other publications)<\/p>\n

\u2756 Awareness of the role of women in the church (theology of all creation, call to evangelization, involvement in lay liturgical ministries, support of the missionary work of the church)<\/p>\n

\u2756 Encouraging vocations (supporting parish priests, formation programs for young women and men, youth ministries)<\/p>\n

\u2756 Ecumenism and interfaith endeavors (Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, World Day of Prayer)<\/p>\n

\u2756 Study and implement the action plans of adopted resolutions that pertain to faith and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (pro-life legislation, reproductive technology, euthanasia); circulating information that enhances church teachings..<\/p>\n

At the beginning of each decade, announce the “mystery” to be contemplated, for example, the first joyful mystery is “The Annunciation”.<\/p>\n

After a short pause for reflection, recite the “Our Father”, ten “Hail Mary’s” and the “Glory be to the Father”.<\/p>\n

An invocation may be added after each decade.<\/p>\n

At the end of the Rosary, the Loreto Litany or some other Marian prayer is recited.<\/p>\n

Our Father<\/b>, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.<\/p>\n

Hail Mary<\/b>, Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.<\/p>\n

Glory be to the Father<\/b>, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen..<\/p>\n

The Litany of Loreto<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Hail, holy Queen<\/b>, mother of mercy; hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.<\/p>\n
